Heading Back to Michigan
The story continues...
Voyage home continues...
We entered Utah later in the afternoon from Arizona. Nothing much happened on the first
part of the trip through Utah, but some really nice scenery. A few pictures of that part below.

We drove on to a small town called Beaver just off U.S.15 and got more gas and air for the donut spare tire. There was an older attendant there who tried to sell us a used tire to replace one of the front tires which wasn't the problem and it was a bit too much money, so I passed on it. I figured when we got to Denver, I'd ask Ray Zink, who lived there, to help us find a cheap tire. We drove on and got to the junction of U.S.15 and U.S.70 where we turned toward Denver. It was now getting dark and we were about 20 miles into U.S.70 when I heard a rumbling. My worst fears were answered when we pulled onto the shoulder and found another tire was going flat and we now had no spare. It was about 10pm and we were way out in the country, so there was going to be no walking anywhere. We camped out in the van and I tried to figure out a way out of this mess. The last tire that we first lost had a slow leak when we found it going down so I thought I may be able to do something with it. Not much else to do but sleep which didn't come easily. Morning and I looked over the older flat and found two small puncture holes in it and dig through my tire kit to see what I had to fix it. I tried to cut a couple of small pieces of tubing to make plugs but the plastic didn't bond. Justin found on the side of the road a couple of pieces of tire from some truck or car that lost some rubber and I made two plugs out of those. The sealer held to those and after putting air in the tire it seemed to hold. Now the next problem was we still had no jack. We stood around looking as helpless as we could but no one would stop to help. Finally a State Forestry truck rode by and then came back down the other way and stopped. He had a good jack and we changed the tire, thanked him and headed on. |

We managed to get about 20 miles to Richfield and stopped at a Walmarts there. I bought a cheap tire and a hydraulic jack on sale and we were on our way again on to Denver. The rest of the trip through Utah was pleasant, more on the next page. |
