The story continues...
Life continues...
After we got back to Michigan we stayed at my parents house. Justin slept in the van and I went back to my old bedroom in the house. We spent many days looking for work but I discovered Michigan was in a very depressed time and work was not easy to find. Justin finally got a factory job (he likes those) from a temp agency and I drove him daily to his new job at 5am in the morning. After a while Justin got in touch with some old friends and moved into their house and I got my dad's car out of the garage where it sat for 3 years and got it back on the road. I continued to hunt for work and finally got a part time job hawking subscriptions for the Macomb Daily. I would set up a booth at the local Meijer's or Farmer Jacks and try to get people to sign up for the newspaper. It wasn't a bad job, I stood around for about 6 hours and got a lot of turn-downs from people. This went on for many month and I wanted to get out of my parents house so bad I could taste it. Not that my parents are bad people, my mom helped me out in many ways but I'm a private person and having to live their lifestyle was hard. They would go to bed by 7pm at night and wake by 4am in the morning and I had to be very quiet during their sleeping hours. One day while I was working at a Meijers I talked to some ladies from Elite Marketing, the people who hand out food samples at Meijers and they had openings, so I applied. I ended up standing around handing out crackers or cookies or coupons, at least I wasn't getting turned down for handing out freebies. I still did the Macomb Daily as it provided a small income.
More coming.
February 16, 2005 - Got a real nice software program that allows you to put a panorama
picture on your website. I just today took the pictures of my parent's house and neighborhood
and put them into the program and came up with a neat feature, a 360 degree view. If you click the link below
it will take you to that picture. It may take a few minutes to load depending on your connection
so be patient.
April 3, 2006 - It's been a whole year since I put anything here, I guess I didn't have much to say as nothing much had changed. Well, I did get a job working for the contractor who took my old job cleaning floors at Meijers. I guess Meijers figured they could save money by hiring an outside cleaning company to do the work. I started working for them but had to drive 90 miles round trip everyday because they only had openings in that store until they could start me in the Meijers in my hometown of Fraser that was only a mile from the house and I waited almost two months to be transfered there. I was given the job of shift supervisor and the store was brand new and hadn't even opened yet. I found that I now had to deal with complaints from both my company and the Meijer management. The store director had some kind of mission to make life miserable and my district managers were not providing me with the proper information about what our new job duties were. I was told one day that the Fraser store would be ready for me the next Monday, which relieved me greatly. The 90 mile a day trip was grueling on my car, I suffered two separate tire blow outs on the freeway at 80 miles an hour during the time I was there, my son was working for me there now too so it helped to have him around when I was in trouble. Anyways, come Friday I was told that the store manager had done an inspection and flunked us so they said I couldn't be transfered to Fraser until I got the place straightened up. I asked what we had failed on and was told what we missed. I informed the District manager that we were never told to clean those areas and he said he would straighten out the misunderstanding. BULL. He never did anything about it since he was the person who was supposed to have told us our duties, he would have looked bad. I found they still had no intention of transfering me and I had it with the company and with Meijers. I sat down with the yellow pages and called various cleaning companies until I found one that was hiring. I went in to fill out the paper work and was hired at less than I was getting at Meijers, but the $75 a week savings that I was putting in gas driving each week made up for the difference. Besides, I was told I would get a raise after three months (the first lie). I called the district manager and left an message saying I quit, and took a few days off before starting the new job. My son took over as shift supervisor, a job he tried to suffer through, but left after a month of their B.S., I didn't blame him one bit. So I started working the new job but I was just doing cleaning at a school for the local community college adult ed, altho I was told they would work me into a supervisory position (the second lie). I was working midnights again and after being there now for about eight months, I haven't seen the promised raise or heard anything about my supervisor position, even tho I mentioned it numerous times. And I still get annoyed that people bitch about bathroom cleaning, I scrub and clean to my satisfaction, if I were the super inspecting the job, but there are always those who like to complain about everything. I'm up to my nose in having my fill of this job too, but until some thing comes along, I'll have to bear it for now.
